About the Faculty

The Faculty of History was established on 1 September 2023 as a result of the division of the Faculty of History and International Relations. However, the history of history studies at the University of Białystok has a much longer tradition. The establishment of the Faculty of History is linked to the date of 15 July 1968 and the establishment of the Białystok Branch of the University of Warsaw. At that time, the Department of History at the Faculty of Humanities began its work, with Prof. Andrzej Wyrobisz as its first head. From 1975, the Department was headed by Prof. Elżbieta Kaczyńska.
At the end of the 1970s, the Institute of History began to be organised. On 1 February 1980, the Department was transformed into the Institute of History and Prof. A. Wyrobisz became its director. In 1997, with the establishment of the University of Białystok, the Institute became part of the Faculty of History and Sociology. On 1 October 2019, with the new statute of UwB, the Faculty of History and International Relations was established. On 1 September 2023, as a result of the division of the Faculty of History and International Relations, the Faculty of History was established, which runs the following faculties: History (undergraduate and postgraduate studies), Eastern Studies (undergraduate and postgraduate studies), Public Diplomacy (undergraduate studies), Public Diplomacy and Regional Promotion (postgraduate studies).
