Mgr Monika Kozłowska-Szyc and mgr Maciej Kwiatkowski from the Faculty of History of the University of Białystok are participating in the prestigious Winter Workshop “Climate Change and History Research Initiative”, held at Princeton University in the United States.

The winter school introduces historians, archaeologists, and scholars from the social sciences to key issues in paleoenvironmental research and historical approaches to climate change. The programme combines theoretical lectures with intensive practical training, covering topics such as paleoclimatology, palynology, ice-core analysis, and marine sediment studies. An important component of the workshop consists of laboratory sessions, including hands-on pollen analysis.

The workshops are led by distinguished specialists from academic institutions in Princeton, Birmingham, Basel, Rome, and Jerusalem. Participants include early-career researchers representing leading universities such as Harvard University, Princeton University, Georgetown University, the University of Chicago, as well as the University of Białystok.

Princeton University is one of the most prestigious universities in the world and a member of the elite Ivy League. Founded in 1746, it is the fourth-oldest institution of higher education in the United States. The university has been affiliated with more than 80 Nobel Prize laureates, underscoring its outstanding contribution to global scholarship and scientific research.

Beyond its academic value, participation in the workshop also offers an opportunity to experience the unique atmosphere of one of the world’s most renowned university campuses. Princeton is widely admired for its historic buildings, distinctive Gothic Revival architecture, and thoughtfully designed academic spaces that foster reflection, dialogue, and intellectual exchange.

The participation of representatives of the Faculty of History of the University of Białystok in this international initiative highlights the growing role of interdisciplinary research at the Faculty and strengthens its presence in global academic discussions on climate history and human–environment relations.
