In recognition of her commitment and significant contribution to the development of the University of Białystok, the Rector of the University, Prof. Dr hab. Mariusz Popławski, honoured Dr hab. Marzena Liedke, Prof. UwB from the Faculty of History. The distinction was awarded in connection with the researcher’s success in obtaining a prestigious research grant.
The official acknowledgements were presented on 21 January during a meeting of the Senate of the University of Białystok.
The research team led by Prof. Marzena Liedke will carry out the project entitled:
“An Inventory of the Contents of the So-Called Fifth Russian Revision Lists of 1795 from the Territories of the Former Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, with Indexes and Statistical Analysis.”
The researchers secured PLN 650,000 for the implementation of the project under the National Programme for the Development of the Humanities. The project aims to prepare, statistically analyse, and make available unique archival sources that are essential for research into the social structure and demography of the territories of the former Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth at the end of the eighteenth century.
Prof. Marzena Liedke is a historian specialising in the early modern history of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, as well as in auxiliary sciences of history. She has been affiliated with the University of Białystok throughout her entire academic career, where she obtained both her doctoral and habilitation degrees.
Her research focuses, among other areas, on the history of the magnate class and the nobility, as well as on the impact of the Reformation on the elites of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. She is an active member of Polish and international scholarly societies. For her academic and organisational achievements, she has received numerous awards, including the Gold Cross of Merit.
